ABOUT EKOTROPE
Ekotrope was born out of a simple problem. An MIT professor wanted to build an energy efficient home. As founder Professor Ed Crawley began working on the design of his new home, he found it surprisingly difficult to find a cost-effective way to model his home’s projected energy usage. In his research, Ed found that all of the information he needed to do so was out there, but it was spread out among various people and organizations. He also found that he wasn’t the only one experiencing this problem; this issue went all the way up the stream to large residential builders and state utility programs alike.
Fast forward and today Ekotrope RATER is the leading home energy rating software in the US, utilized for nearly 80% of all HERS ratings and 1 in 4 new homes built in the U.S. Homes built using Ekotrope’s software collectively save nearly 300,000 metric tons of CO2 annually.
Ekotrope RATER optimizes every step of energy modeling, from design to certification. We develop cloud-based tools that reduce the time, cost and effort of designing energy efficient buildings — and allow energy professionals, HERS raters, builders, evaluators and utility administrators to collaborate seamlessly in real-time via our API.
Since then, we’ve developed a suite of rating and utility solutions all aimed at streamlining the energy modeling and submission processes, including:
- QA Track. This feature assists you in managing your RESNET and Energy Star QA tasks by organizing and automating the QA process.
- Inspection Sync. This tool acts as the connection between your Inspection application of choice and Ekotrope RATER, allowing you to update multiple existing energy models at once with field inspection results.
- Scenario Modeling. This what-if analysis tool takes the guesswork out of code compliance. It allows raters to help their builders better understand how factors like mechanical systems and building design changes affect a builder’s portfolio, ensuring that they can make the best, most informed decisions.
